In the United States and Canada combined, our best estimate is that there are about 2,000 hectares (a little over 4,900 acres) of Tempranillo planted.
We're always trying to get a handle on this number, so if you have any updates or other sources for this information, please comment below or use the contact form to let us know. Thanks!
TAPAS member Longoria Wines, in Los Olivos, CA, will be participating in a series of events celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, including winemaker dinners, seminars, open houses, barrel tastings and more. The events take place Friday-Sunday, August 12-14. Click here for more information.
I'm looking for six TAPAS wineries to participate in an International Tempranillo Day event with William Allen of Simple Hedonisms, www.simplehedonisms.com. He is located in Fulton, CA, just north of Santa Rosa. On Chardonnay Day, he did a tasting of wineries at his greenhouse, and there was no charge for the tables - there was just a $5 donation to pay for food.
He would like six TAPAS wineries to do the same thing on International Tempranillo Day. Please let me know if you would be interested in pouring there on September 1, and I can send further details. You can contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone.
